Unprofessional Conduct and Property Damage--Who Will Pay for My TV?
This company was hired for a restoration project in two areas of my home following a leaking pipe repair. While I expected quality service and professionalism, I was met with carelessness, dishonesty, and damage to my property.
The worker arrived at 10:00 a.m. and completed the work by 3:00 p.m. One area was my first-floor ceiling, which is right next to my 9-month-old 75" TV. When I was inspecting the work when he was done, I immediately noticed drywall compound caked onto the top of the TV, a deep 1-inch scratch across the screen, and white residue where the worker had wiped the screen with what was clearly a dirty cloth. The TV was in perfect condition before the work began, as shown in the *before* pictures that were provided to the company when scheduling the appointment.
When I pointed out the damage, the worker initially admitted to causing the scratch by saying it happened when he was wiping the TV screen (with the dirty cloth) and he thought it was plastic that must have still been in on the TV. I explained there was no plastic left on my TV--this was a deep, permanent scratch. After realizing his mistake, he backtracked and claimed the scratch had been there all along, even though the evidence is in the *before* pictures that shows it was not there. He claims he worked nowhere near the TV, yet the drywall compound on the TV, streaks from his rag on the screen say otherwise. Basically a brand-new screen ruined by his carelessness.
What infuriates me more than the damage itself is the dishonesty. Accidents happen, and had the worker been honest, we could have resolved this professionally. Instead, he tried to cover it up, insulted my intelligence by lying to my face, and shifted blame. He called his supervisor, Hasaan (spelling?) was nonchalant and dismissive when I explained the situation. Hasaan asked me to send pictures, which I had already submitted to the homeowner. When Hasaan proceeded to speak to owner *after* speaking to me about the TV. He never mentioned the TV issue and ignored the issue when speaking to them about payment.
This isn't a minor scratch--it's a deep, irreparable gash on a new TV. The company failed to protect my property, and their response was unprofessional at best. Now, the question remains: who will take responsibility for the damage they caused?
If you're considering this company for your restoration needs, I strongly urge you to think twice. A professional company should protect your property and, at the very least, own up to their mistakes. This company did neither.
