    Build our pool and decking.
    $70,000

We contracted with Zodiac to build our pool and spa a year ago, during the busiest build time in history (the Pandemic), so I won't hold delays against them during that time.

Our main problems have been post pool construction issues, with the exception of our coping, which is starting to disintegrate in certain areas, we believe due to being used with a salt water pool. Our initial selection was a concrete bull nosed coping, but since it was out of stock, we were offered an upgrade in coping. There was no mention of this "upgrade" having issues with being used with salt water pools, which our research now is showing is normal.

We also had a lot of double talk with the coping during installation, they drilled a hole in a piece of coping and ran wires for a spa side control. Then filled the hole with mastic instead of installing the promised control unit. We were finally able to get Zodiac to sent the guys out and replace the piece of coping, but the mastic is now not a perfect match to the rest of the pool. It was as good of a job as the tile guys could do, so I don't blame them, they did really nice work.

Besides the coping issue, we just haven't had luck in getting the little things finished up with our pool. The rear fence that was removed to dig the pool has never been repaired to its pre-dig state and in a few spots they just split some of the fence stakes and made them fit. Which looks terrible from our neighbors side and we are very lucky our rear neighbor isn't more upset about it.

The water sprinkler system repair was a joke, to say the least. I didn't get any input on how it was hooked up and none of my zones are listed in any way. They tied entire sides of the house into the back areas, when those two zones need to be watered separately in order to get the correct amount of water to different areas. Besides that, none of our soaker areas, front flower bed, front tree, or between the sidewalk and the street were even hooked back up at all. They did install a zone down the side of our pool that waters gravel, which I have no clue why that is even there. I'm now going to have to hire and pay another company to come fix these issues out of my own pocket, when this was supposed to be included in the price of our pool.

The electrical subcontractor damaged our breaker box and had to be brought out to repair it and didn't install some of the wires with the proper protection against damage over time. We were lucky our home inspector caught it for our one year warranty on the house. Since his work was hidden, it could have been a fire hazard if left unfixed.

We upgraded to LED lights in our pool, we were told they long lasting and less trouble than the standard lighting. Well, one of our four LEDs is only working periodically and we can't get anyone from Zodiac to return our emails about getting that fixed.

Besides the issues above, their communication is spotty at best. We have received some responses quickly, like when the freeze was coming and needed some info on what was the best thing we could do. Other times, it is just promises of service to come, then nothing. My wife continues to try to get information, but I have given up on ever receiving the final services we were promised.

Mistakes happen, but good service is what good companies do to make those mistakes right. Because of the lack of any help getting our pool buttoned up (especially after the final payment was made), I can't recommend Zodiac as a good company to build a pool if you are in the market. I hope to be able to change this review, but I already waited over three months to write it, so I doubt we will see any changes that makes me need to come back and amend this.
