Kristian Laws of Botanical Design and Build embezzled $18K from us.
We had a landscape architect from the UK design our project and then we signed a contract with Kristian in November 2016 to build it (hardscape and plants).
• Kristian promised to get the engineering drawings prepared ASAP for city approval and place orders for long lead items, for which he took $18K advance payment. Despite repeated requests during the last several months, Kristian has failed to provide any proof that he ordered engineering drawings, materials or plants.
• He confirmed that he had submitted plans to the city and received their approval and was going to start excavation and grading in March 2017. Nothing happened on the committed date or subsequent promised dates. I went to the city office and found out that Kristian never submitted any plans. When I confronted him about it, he said that one of his project managers (whom he had never mentioned before) had messed up and that he will provide a revised schedule. He never did.
• Later I found out that his contractor’s license had been revoked a few years back.
• He schedules appointments to meet and then cancels them at the last minute. He does not return phone calls and communicates by email only.
• After waiting 9 months for the construction to start, we finally informed him that we no longer want him to work on our project (August 2017). He refuses to return our advance payment (the contract was for construction and not for designing or project management).
We now believe that he always intended to con us and may be doing the same to other folks as well. Please exercise caution in working with Kristian and his company.
