Charles Wood
Owner
Charles Wood LLC, owned by Charles Wood, is a poor choice. Charles, or Chuck, as he is called, is a shyster and a screw-up. He came on board with us by recommendation from another investor. Little did we know, Chuck has few proper skills as would be expected from a General Contractor. We have walls so severely out of plumb it's been difficult to correct the error. He can't build stairs, even after three attempts. He tried to correct his stair error by moving our kitchen island, which resulted in a non-code-compliant kirchen. The front porch was built without specified materials and back-pitched into the house until we corrected it. Egress windows were undersized. His non-licensed electrician drilled holes, which structurally compromised 15 floor joists (electrician was non-licensed in the City of Berwyn). He throws the names of his Berwyn City Building Department contacts around as if they are his good friends and will pass any mistake he makes. Then our build was shut down for improper permits, specifically due to the electrician. He disappeared with $30,000 as he planned to move on to siding. We discovered, during the stop work order, he had not paid his subcontractors at least $15,000, which we were told had been paid. Last we heard from him was that he had the stop work order fixed. This was a week after we sorted it out ourselves, in July 2020.
