    Siding, Decks Railings
    $60,000

Terrible, terrible terrible. This is an update to my previous review. it is 3 years later and we are having our entire rear deck redone: they used regular beams instead of pressure treated wood that has now rotted, there are no hurricane hangers attaching the deck to the house. All azack and soffets have to be removed - didn't use stainless steel nails, didn't fill nail holes MOLD GROWING. I would sue this guy if he hadn't already filed for bankruptcy. He ripped us off - please stay away!!!!

TERRIBLE. The owner is a good talker but you will be disappointed and not get what you pay for. We hired them to do siding and new decks and railings as well as asome a new outdoor shower and concrete walkway around shower. They started the first week of April 2015 and finally finished the third week in July...a job that was supposed to take 3-4 weeks max. Kept giving excuses, the weather, product delays, etc. You name it, he used it. We had renters and a family reunion living through construction on a half finished house. The workmanship was just as bad. The decks are crooked and uneven- he blamed the railing person, they got gunk on the new very expensive Wolf deck boards trying to caulk the post cap on the railings and no one cleaned it up. We may need to replace a few boards this year because it looks so bad. Our siding is still falling off because they caulked it at the top instead of using stainless steel nails as well. And speaking of which, all of the azack support posts are already rusting at each nail hole because they obvious did not use stainless steel nails. Soffit under the deck is not nailed in so we have that falling down too. We paid over 60k for this job. There is no way I would ever recommend this contractor. He subbed the siding work out to Eastern Exteriors/Mike Bell who tried to help. Chris rarely came to job sight. And he kept pressuring me for money for work that was not complete.

We purchased kitchen cabinets through Chris Thomas Builders, and also hired them for removal of the original kitchen, tiling the floor, sheet rocking, preparation, and installation of the new cabinets in accordance with a provided professional design plan. Chris Thomas Builders approved the plan. There were several problems with the installation, which they proposed would take 3-4 days, but they did in one day. There is one main issue this dispute is about: the plan indicated a three inch filler between the blind corner cabinet and the adjacent sink cabinet, which are perpendicular to each other to in the corner of the kitchen. However, this filler was not put in place. Therefore the drawer of the sink cabinet is literally butted perpendicularly against and behind the drawer of the corner cabinet. It can not be opened. The door to the sink cabinet can not be opened properly, only partially, as it hits the door of the corner cabinet. The filler was necessary to allow for the proper opening and closing of the drawers and cabinet doors. Instead, it was placed on the end, on the outside of the dishwasher, where it serves no purpose. The granite is in place with the sink and faucet cut outs. There is also plumbing for the sink and toe kick heater in place, all of which would have to be moved, and the granite replaced. Chris Thoma Builders drove a nail through the pipe of the toe kick heater, resulting in a leak. The plumber had to come drain the system and remove and reassemble the heater to replace the pipe, and reinstall it. Chris Thomas Builders has been completely unresponsive. Other issues I am not pursuing include; the floor tile does not go all the way to the walls and was never grouted in the areas under the cabinets. The original cabinets were pulled out in such a way as to leave large holes in the ceiling sheetrock, that were never properly repaired and can still be seen with the cabinets in place. The cabinet doors are not even and plumb.

    Horrible workmanship

The owner of the company was great and promising when we spoke to him in an emergency situation the end of February. He said he could start right away and have us back in by 4th of July, but needed to start right away because of mold. He said he would have a crew of 3 5 days a week onsite until completion. He came to the site when asked, he lives around the corner, but that was the only time he was there. He provided no oversight of the reconstruction. The contract stated we would have licensed and insured workers, I’m sending an email to get copies of all the workers documents. The electrician/plumber could not put light switches in correct, and could not figure out a 3 way dimmer. He also put a splice in an outlet junction box for an outside outlet that he removed, cut the wires and left them exposed in the wall, hot. The plumber also put an outside shower in and did not put a drain on the hot water side, so that will freeze in the winter. The owner was also the biggest BS’er you would ever talk to. If you said you wanted something complete he would say “OK” and not do it. He told me the water was on and it felt great, bathroom working in a text, I went down two days later and skipped the last bathroom break because the toilet was working only to find out the water was never turned on. He told me the A/C was on and working and it was still in a box upstairs. We started calling him 2 week man because he promised you it would be complete in 2 weeks, but it wasn’t. Oct I noticed the lockbox on the door gone along with the workers tools, and no activity since the end of September, I texted if they abandoned the job and was assured they were working on completing the site send a punchlist. I sent the punchlist and nothing got done. I texted him because we wanted to come down for Thanksgiving, would the counter and sink and hot water heater be ready, the counter was allegedly ordered 8/23, he stated he was having a procedure done and would be out until cleared. I texted back that the Bureau of Consumer Affairs had an article in Press of AC that they were cracking down on contractors, should I contact them and maybe a lawyer? He responded he would take care of everything the next week. I texted the next week and included his wife who stated “You threatened us with a lawyer and I took your text message to our lawyer and he said not to return to the site, you can finish the job yourself” That had to be the worst advice she got from a lawyer, which I don’t think she saw. A copy of the contract, the texts and pictures don’t lie, all of which we have. So here is my list of some of the problems not taken care of:
Pocket doors that are 30” wide in a 27” opening so the doors do not look centered.
Roof not shingled after the chimney removal
Exhaust fan in bathroom blowing into insulation above the ceiling, not outside of house
They installed a completely wrong A/C heater than specified in contract, also in numerous texts from company owner; it was also specified in contract. Sadly it does not cool or heat the house properly
Hot water heater made for southern regions and only 1 sink can be used at one time, after it was installed I sent the owner the Fact Sheet from Home Depot’s website showing it was inadequate. He sent numerous texts it would be taken care of but wasn’t.
The Kitchen cabinet layout, it changed 2 times because the measurements were incorrect, you could not reach the windows unless you climbed on the cabinets. k.
They did not use windows up to code specs, just cheap Lowes single pane non-thermal windows.
They put a kitchen cabinet in upside down and now I have to order another cabinet door, they drilled through for the knob.
The plumber ran the gas line through the inside of the house, drilled through a step, a closet ceiling and a refinished floor, then realized you can’t do that per code.
The outside piping for the A/C is exposed, they never put a cover on it, and the plumber ran the gas line but was too lazy to add 2 couplings so it would go up the side of the house with the other pipes to be covered, no he said “Just paint it”.
They left 2 hot outlets with no tape or warning, one on the front porch and one in a closet.
The people working on the site were careless; they painted everything, a TV a night stand, a new refrigerator, the new cabinets and the floor and anything near where they were supposed to be careful. They also dropped paint on the back porch, the siding, the sidewalk and under the outside shower. I don’t think they had a level or a sharp drill bit for anything either. Under counter lights never installed, No kitchen counter, sink or faucets installed or left onsite, we were told we had to get this on our own because they were not returning.
