We recently hired Dave Lindell Construction for a major remodel on our home. We questioned him about installing Hardie siding before hiiring him. He stated that he was experienced installing this product. When he began to install the shakes we noticed that he was breaking the bottom course. When questioned about this he stated he was not breaking them but "fracturing" them. In any case he was voiding our warranty. We had him remove the shakes and return them.On his second attempt after being provided with Hardie siding information he began installing the siding again improperly. Once again he was instructed to remove the siding. The third attempt went a bit better and we found ourselves supervising his work on a daily basis. When the job was nearly complete, Mr. Lindell stated that on future jobs he would go back to his old siding method. He did not seem to care about a customer's warranty. His initial cost proposals and time frame for job completion estimates were inaccurate. Our garage addition attic area required mold remediation on new materials due to a lack of ventilation. The cause found as the project was ongoing by a mold remediation company was due to a failure to cutback the plywood roof decking for ridge vent installation. We held back funds at the end of the project and fortunately Mr. Lindell paid the 5350 mold bill. There were a number of other problems with this contractor's performance. Our concern is his failure to study up on proper material application when entrusted with a customer's home and money. We are retired and happy to see him leave and fatigued from closely watching him. We discovered the mold, found the siding errors and have regretted our choice. On a side note, we had a budget update meeting with him to get an idea of our cost to completion. When he was questioned about a overrun on an item, he stated "money, money, money, that's all you care about". ...... Well it was important to us so we let him go.
