If you want to have someone act like they are being questioned by a Senate committee, Alex is your guy. He will say "I do not recall that" over and over again when you remind him of the work he promised to do. He will ask you to sign his quote. I foolishly did since he came off as competent. Write out every detail you want covered and have him sign it. He will cut every corner. Workmanship was horrible. Told his painter to use only 1 coat of paint after we
discussed 2 coats. Puts in flooring under appliances only as far as he thinks you will notice. Left my stove unlevel because he only laid flooring halfway back. Flooring cuts visible extending out from under the molding. Cut glass backsplash with a dull blade and it cracked. When questioned, he tells me that the backsplash is glass and that is what happens. Cut flooring to 3 different lengths next to each other. 1/8", 1/4", 1/2" back from where the floor should end. When questioned, he tells me the flooring will expand filling the spaces. Really? The flooring magically expands to different lengths? Like a fish grows to the size of it's tank? This clown came up with all sorts of excuses. I had him back several times to fix things that were either wrong or never done (caulking, grout, paint - he must have thought that we would never open a closet door and see it wasn't done). After days of him coming in and spending the day - I wouldn't see any visible work done. One day I gave him 5 things to redo or finally do; as he leaves, he tells me that they were all done. I inspected and found none done. I eventually wrote the last check and he said "really" and hit the road, never to be seen again. All good - I couldn't take him any longer. When I met him, he told me about a woman that was complaining about his work and constantly calling him to come back. He made the woman sound completely unreasonable. I now know that he gave me the hint that should have warned me not to hire him. I wish I could upload my photos of his craftsmanship for everyone to see here.
