Simply put: DucTech Inc engages in false advertising. The company advertises free diagnostics/estimates, but ultimately charges a fee for diagnostic in addition to a separate fee for repair. It’s deceptive and unethical business practice.
Business Tips: Be honest and transparent about pricing. Don’t manipulate customers to win business. Operate with integrity.
Prior to scheduling, I spoke with Mat about an issue with my furnace. I specifically inquired about whether DucTech Inc provides free estimates/diagnostics as “free estimates” advertisements are indicated on the company’s social media pages, etc. Mat confirmed that the company provides free estimates/diagnostic.
However, once my repair was completed, I was charged separate fees for both diagnostics and repair.
When probed about the charges, Mat stated there is a diagnostics fee in addition to the repair fee. I’d reminded Mat about the fact that he’d confirmed there would be no diagnostic charge. He claimed there was a misunderstanding. There was no misunderstanding on my part.
Sure, companies are at liberty to charge for estimates - that’s not at all uncommon. The issue here is that the company/employee misrepresented that cost to the consumer. DucTech Inc repeatedly advertises free estimates, but ultimately charges a fee for diagnostics in addition to a separate fee for repair. That’s a manipulative and deceptive practice. Any diagnostics/estimate fee should be stated upfront but especially when it’s directly asked about by the customer.
Many times, if a company charges a fee for diagnostics, it is common that the diagnostics fee is applied toward the cost of the repair. It was disappointing that DucTech charged a repair fee on top of a diagnostics/estimate fee all the while advertising “free estimates”.
Furthermore, per Mat, the company only guarantees repair work for 30 days which, to me, seems to be a rather short timeframe.
