They showed up to look at our water damage. Our insurance company sent them to us. Upon arrival the guy demanaded our deductible ($2,000) before he would even look at the damage. First of all, this is illegal. Second, this is just poor business practice. Third, he lost our business and we are getting someone else to do the entire job.
Per the CSLB:
The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) is alerting California consumers who are considering hiring a painter, landscaper – or any other type of construction contractor – that it is illegal to ask for or accept a down payment of more than 10 percent of the total home improvement contract price or $1,000, whichever is less.
