Hired Humble Hammer/Jeff Williams to complete an outside house repair. Jeff gave us a verbal bid, completed the work and charged what he bid for the job. Hired Jeff to install an interior wall with closets. He came out, looked at the job, and gave us a verbal bid of about $1,500. We said yes. We offered to pay Jeff half during the project but he said wait until the job was done. The bill came in at $3,901.50, a little over 2 1/2 times the original bid. Jeff never discussed any increased costs for this job with us at anytime before, during, or after the project. He just sent us a bill. Called Jeff to discuss what in the world happened. No return call. Mailed letter with check for $2,000 (a 33% increase over his original $1,500 bid) to Jeff indicating at no time had he discussed an increase in the cost of the project. We were unable to say 'no' or to discuss ways to reduce the cost. Received certified letter from Jeff stating he would take legal action if we did not pay the remaining bill. Called and left another message for Jeff that was not returned. Jeff came across as a nice and honest person. The first small job went well. We dispute this bill and caution anyone doing business with Jeff to make sure they have everything in writing up front. Jeff cannot be trusted and will cheat you in the end!

Humble Hammer and Jeff Williams came highly recommended from friends we trust, and we could not be happier. After working w/ dozens of general contractors over the years, Jeff might be the most honest we've dealt with. He's done 5 different jobs for us –– from general contract work (e.g., moving fridge plumbing and associated drywall finishing work, installing baseboards) to more handyman type stuff (e.g., trimming and installing closets). The work has always been high quality, fairly-priced, and timely. Additionally, Jeff is just a caring and affable guy to work with. Our family recommends Humble Hammer and Jeff w/out reservation.
Btw –– beware the reviewer who waits until something goes wrong to write a scathing review. Here, especially, when they admittedly did not dot the most rudimentary of i's and cross the most obviously-necessary of t's on their end (i.e., getting a written estimate before work begins; signing an actual contract), and then screech 'foul'.
