I'm the owner at 5233 Hub St. You can check that address against the permit applications by Mr. Pieters We hired him January 3, 2017 for a complete remodel of the property. Jeff's bid for the project was $84,000. To date, Mr Pieters as received almost $75,000 of that allocation. Last week he started to replace the roof on the main dwelling, demoing the existing tile and prepping for the new shingle roof. This morning he walked off the job. Currently, there is no roof on the house. There are no fixtures in the bathrooms, the windows aren't installed, the back deck is only 25% complete, the doors aren't hung, the molding isn't in, the bathrooms aren't tiled, no showers or toilets, and there is no roof on the house. Estimates from other contractors range between $25,000 and $35,000 to complete the job.
Originally this job was promised a completion time of 4/30/17, I would check in every week as I continued to write Jeff checks and he always told me we were on schedule. By March, I was getting concerned as there was much work still to be done and the estimated completion date was coming within 4 weeks. Jeff then asked to move the completion date to May 26. We agreed…. This charade continued until May, when it was obvious we were nowhere near completion, he asked to move to June 15. June 15 came and went and we are still a long ways from completion. Just last week Mr Pieters asked me for an advance of $150 so that he could purchase nails and paint to finish the fence. He’s received almost $74,000 from me yet doesn’t have the money to pay for minimal basic materials. He also told me he did not have the money to pay for additional labor help.
Jeff has been consistently deceptive in his progress updates and willingly admitted to mismanagement and misallocation of funds. He’s told us on several occasions that he’s waiting on another job to start and that when it does he’ll have the money to pay for materials and labor(materials and labor we’ve already paid him for). He’s robbing Peter to pay Paul, our money is gone and he’s waiting for the next job to come along so that he can use that money to finish our job, and then the cycle will continue.
I've filed a claim against his contractors bond, am filing a claim with the state contractors licensing board and will be taking Mr. Pieters to small claims court.
