BE WARNED!! My husband and I hired Anson Morse, dba Morse Construction Services, December 2018 because he said he could work with our Insurance company. We ended up working with the Insurance company ourselves and fired him after 3 months for failing to complete work we had paid him for and because he threatened to put a mechanics lien on our home if we didn’t give him more money for work he had already completed and for which he had already been paid! We had to pay someone else to finish the job. When we wouldn’t give Morse more money out of our own pocket, because the Insurance company wouldn’t authorize any of his new expenses, he put a mechanics lien on our home. Now it is January 2019, 11 months later, and we are still having to deal with a legal mess! We have had to take Anson Morse to Small Claims Court twice (Case #18WCSC02190, it’s a public record, you can look it up) and won both times, based on submitted evidence showing that Anson Morse breached the home improvement/construction repair contract he had with us by trying to increase the price on completed work after the fact and failing to properly perform the construction work he was hired for and for which he had already received the agreed-upon fee. However, he still has not removed the fraudulent mechanics lien he placed on our home 8 months ago, ignoring the legal deadline for completing the mechanic lien paperwork. We will have to go to court again(!) and pay nearly $500 for the court to remove the fraudulent mechanics lien he put on our house. Anson Morse has not paid us the $3325.00 judgment the Small Claims Court awarded to us. We owe the attorney substantial attorney fees and with Morse’s fraudulent lien still attached to the tax records of our home, we cannot sell, refinance or get a reverse mortgage on our home, which is a scary situation for us as Senior Citizens! I have filed a complaint and claim against Anson Morse and Morse Construction Services with the California Contractor State Licensing Board. According to their website, www.cslb.ca.gov, the Contractor State Licensing Board can suspend his contractor’s license #859745 until a legal judgement has been satisfied. You can go to their website and check the status of any contractor’s license. We have tried to contact Anson Morse, but he has not returned our calls.
