    HVAC diagnostic and repair

His truck and attire were professional but that's where being professional ends, in my experience. He charges a 'Diagnostic Fee' but getting him to diagnose the system was like pulling teeth. My general impression is that he is only interested in maximizing his charges and doing what is easiest and convenient for him. He has little interest in the needs of his customer.

He was hired to evaluate the central air conditioning system for a second floor tenant in the middle of a horrible heat wave; the air flow would decrease in the extreme heat. We arrived to discover that the inside system had iced-up. I was told no diagnostic could be preformed until the system had thawed and we would need to reschedule but he doesn't work weekends leaving my tenant in discomfort for several days. Despite this, he still charged me the diagnostic fee which I paid.

As the property manager, I researched the issue to find that there are 4 common issues that could cause the air flow problem experienced: clogged air filter, clogged condensate discharge line, blower motor capacitor and low on refrigerant. As it turned out, this system had 3 of the 4 issues, the air filter was not even dirty. The only issue he wanted to discuss was the refrigerant issue and wanted me to authorize his quote of almost $1,000 for up to 4 lbs even though he said it was only "slightly" low. (I discovered later that this system took 3 lbs of refrigerant). I informed him that the tenants experienced no decrease in air temperature just volume of air and had to insist that he perform a more thorough diagnostic to include leak detection.

He failed to notice that the discharge was blocked and refused to replace the blower capacitor even as I suggested he do so. He did no leak detection even though he insisted that being low on refrigerant could only happen due to a leak in the system.

I had to remind him on the blocked discharge and got him to fix this before I could justify such a high cost for refrigerant. He agreed and found it necessary to remove the rusted smoke pipe on this gas fired system to gain access. In doing so, he dumped a good amount of debris into the exhaust discharge blower and throughout the system. Upon successfully clearing the drainage blockage, he started to replace the rusted smoke pipe still containing much debris as evidenced on the floor as he picked it up. I requested that he install new pipe spanning about 4 feet of straight pipe and 2 elbows but he refused and told me that I needed to schedule another appointment during the heating season. Ignoring my objections and while on the phone with another customer, he reinstalled the rusted and faulty gas pipe despite the pipe being broken where it attached to the furnace leaving this property vulnerable to possible CO2 leak once the furnace was activated, a very dangerous situation!

In a nutshell, the blower capacitor failed in a few days and needed to be replaced and I am left with a potentially bigger problem with the heating system. On top of this, he did not provide me with IRS acceptable receipts despite promising me the same details that he showed me on his computer screen would be on the receipts. One of the receipts didn't even contain the property address!
