Premier HD Construction is disorganized, unreliable, and worst of all very unresponsive. They failed to meet one deadline after another, but always were quick with an excuse or to point the finger.
I found Rick and Jim (the owners/operators of Premier HD Construction) on the Houzz app. After an extensive upfront due diligence process to review the scope of work, I hired them as the GCs for my home renovation project in December 2020.
We agreed on a 4 month timeline. Over a year later, they’re still not done and we’re 9+ months (and running) over schedule. Can’t make this stuff up.
Their poor communication resulted in issues and headaches that should have been avoided. Engaging them as general contractors is a cautionary tale of overpromising and underdelivering.
I found them NOT to be pragmatic or proactive in addressing the typical problems or issues that arise in any project in the normal course of business. They were unaccountable for their lack of oversight and the subpar management of their sub-contractors. As a result, the project materially exceeded the agreed upon budget and delayed our timeline.
The root of the problem was that there was no ‘foreman’ onsite or consistent day-to-day point of contact overseeing the job. Rick and Jim spread themselves way too thin. As a result, the sub-contractors that they hired to perform the actual work were not supervised and it resulted in a number of mistakes that needed to be corrected.
The subs were good people, I got to know some of them pretty well, but since they weren’t given proper direction and Premier HD wasn’t onsite to check that the work was being done properly and per the architectural plans, various components of the job had to be redone and delays/costs mounted.
Ultimately PHD’s mismanagement of their sub-contractors and unaccountability for their actions caused progress to derail and forced me to step in and basically do Rick/Jim’s job. To add insult to injury, several sub-contractors have since shown up at my front door saying that they haven’t been able to get a hold of Rick/Jim and that they are owed money.
Can’t say I’m too surprised by this. I was witness to more than one yelling match between Rick/Jim and their subs under my roof. Doesn’t help their case that each of them changed their phone numbers, I didn’t ask why at the time but assumably to dodge these ppl. Ugh just no way to conduct business and completely unprofessional.
Multiple subs of theirs quit midway through the job or walked off after similar complaints. Since they were subbing in diff ppl to do the same job and pick up the last guy’s work halfway through, there was little to no consistency and it showed.
Very dissatisfied with my experience working with PHD. For anyone contemplating any renovation work or construction projects in Westchester or greater CT, steer clear of these guys. They’re bad news and you’re better off going another direction or managing it yourself, because that’s what you’ll end up doing if you hire them, the only difference is you’ll prob get it done way more cost-effectively and in half the time.

Rick Depalma is, to put it politely, a scam artist. I engaged him two years ago to redo my mudroom, to make some custom cabinetry, and to finish my basement. Two years later he still had not fished the work, he does not respond to calls or emails, and he makes excuse after excuse for blown deadlines. Worse, he has been through multiple subcontractors because he consistently fails to pay them and they walk off of the job. I am now getting frequent calls and messages from multiple sub-contractors saying that Rick owes them more than $10,000 and asking me to to cover those costs. A huge part of the problem is that he never shows his face on the job site. The only time you will ever see him is when he wants a check, and at those times he is all smiles and is full of apologies and promises to change. He never does, and it is a nightmare. He makes excuse after excuse, I have lost count of how many times he has claimed to have caught covid, broken a bone, had surgery, had a medical emergency, been on vacation, had sick kids, had a broken down truck, etc. The list goes on and on and on and the excuses never stop. Without anyone on site the work is done in a sloppy fashion and often has to be redone (which I had to pay for out of my own pocket just to get it done). There is complete disarray on the job site. His workers left food in my basement that went rotten and, because no one showed up for weeks, went rotten before we noticed it. We were left with THOUSANDS of flies, which I had to clean up. I am now in the position of preparing complaints with Westchester County and preparing a lawsuit. Stay as far away from Rick as you possibly can. And note that he operates multiple companies as he runs from bad reviews. Do not work with him.
