I have hired Steve on 6 different projects. Up
until the most recent job his work was great, probably because he did all of it himself with a dedicated crew and no subcontractors. My only criticism up to now was his communication style and general lateness so jobs probably took a bit longer to complete than they should have. However, on the most recent job, he would often go awol, a few times for days, he hired subs who were not great, he miscalculated the size of the kitchen cabinets, made a huge mistake with the bathroom plumbing, lost expensive pieces of plumbing hardware, did a lousy job of installing one appliance (dishwasher which leaked) and after the first week he really only worked a few hours each day he was on site. One of his subs broke my garage door. Steve said he would pay me outside the job to which I agreed. Ultimately I fired him because 2 months into the job we were still far out from completion. And he has yet to pay me for the garage door and I don’t expect see that money. I had to hire another contractor to finish the job. The new contractor got it done in 7 business days.
