    Floor and Wall Remodel
    $15,000

Chris was wonderful. We had to redo hardwood floors and drywalls. Most people would say that is nothing but with my mother just having knee surgery it was very difficult. My mother could barely walk, and his team was so very polite and patient. They worked around my mother and did a quick and wonderful job. The hardwood floors matched very well with the old floors. The clean-up was perfect. The most important thing was the last day walk through. Chris really wanted to make sure everything was perfect. All the tiny little things they fixed even if it was not on the list. I would recommend him to anyone. Also, his price was about 40% less than everyone else.

    Full Condo Remodel
    $150,000

We wanted to do a follow-up review after having our condo fully remodeled by Stark Builders. Its been about 9 months and our remodel cost over $100,000. Here are the top 4 pain points:

1st (and biggest) is our flooring. We were very clear how important the flooring was and bought special thicker underlayment to help reduce sound. We were continually alerting Stark Builders that the floor didn't seem right. Each time it was explained to us that the floor isn't even but they will do what they can. Less than 1 year after install, there are more than 5 planks have popped up and are no longer level with the other planks and have bowing in several areas.

We did reach out to Stark Builders and provided pictures. After about 4 weeks stopped by. Response:
    1. We should have used different flooring, this was not good quality (**note here** we worked with a designer/consultant and picked out high quality & expensive materials from a very reputable showroom (Studio41) - all picked materials had to be ordered by Stark Builders)
    2. The floor is uneven, and evening is nearly impossible. Even though we can see it now, they couldn't see it on install
    4. Replace the floor, can't fix because its a puzzle
    5. Be aware, water damage can happen now
    6. Get rugs

2nd is painting. We have sticky walls and ceiling paint bubbles. We did not have this issue before. When doing research, this points to improper priming and preparation of the walls/ceilings and painting a second coat before first dry.

We did reach out to Stark Builders and provided pictures. Response:
    1. They can patch and fix but it will happen again because ventilation, buy a fan
    2. Try different paint

3rd is quality of materials used. All the materials we selected from Studio41 we can see are excellent quality, are built to last and look really good. The cabinets and entry/closet doors Stark Builders brought in we can already tell we will need to replace much sooner than expected. The bifold doors have mismatched gaps between floor and ceiling, often come off the tracks. Main doors external layer bubble (can't use any water to clean them). The cabinet doors back is thin and bottom trim pops off. Overall they look would definitely work in a showroom but they don't seem built to last and are flimsy, and we even said we would be willing to pay more to ensure quality.

Lastly is electrical outlets. We removed quite a bit of walls, instead of placing the electrical outlets in the floor so we would have power, it was covered. Outlets are a much needed resource, having it covered and then not being able to undo it and fix it was a pretty big hit based on our layout and setup.

    Tips:
    1. Check with Stark Builders first on how many projects are currently being worked and available capacity. We think Stark Builders were stretched. Even though we reached out regularly, there should have been a moment when the floor installation should have stopped and we should have gone in a different direction either with materials or install.

    2. Even though we worked with a high-end and very reputable store (Studio41), at the end of the day, Stark Builders had to place the final order. They will order these items without actually reviewing if the items are suitable for your place/remodel. Even though we selected LVT per their request, they are now saying it was too thin and not great quality.

    3. Get a project manager. Stark Builders does not project manage or communicate things that may be missed. We had several instances (shower shelves, doors opens, electrical outlets) that were either shoved in last min because we happen to catch it or left out because it was to late. One example one door was put in wrong - they did correct it but just by flipping the door over, now we have an unfinished and raw edge on the outfacing side.

    4. We wouldn't use them for anything that we would want to live in and have quality and last a long time. They may be ok for rental property.

We wish you luck your remodel journey! and hope our experience will provide useful insight.

    New floor
    $1,500

I have been working with Stark builders for many more than 25 years. Chris is a man of honor and focus. Quotes on the money, work is 1st Class. You cannot go wrong with Stark Builders. Lots of experience. They put whole floor in for me, wall patching, painting, and plumbing, kitchen remodeling finishes. When I need something done at home Chris is my 1st call.

Highly recommend Stark Builders. Chris and his team performed 2 separate projects for me. The 1st was a complete condo painting and replacing all closet doors. The 2nd was replacing the tub plumbing and re-doing a wall section of tile in one of the bathrooms.
Very pleased with both experiences. Yes to Stark Builders for future plans!

Hired Stark Builders to repair water damage on bathroom wall and ceiling and also replace bathtub and related plumbing fixtures. This required demolition, plumbing, tile, plastering and painting. They completed the work in the promised timeframe and did a great job. Chris was always available to answer questions and was easy to work with. I would highly recommend them.

    Bathroom remodel

I had 2 bathrooms remodeled by this contractor in the last year and they are the best. The detail of their work is excellent. The first bathroom took only 8 days from the day they first walked in until they were gone and we had a beautiful bathroom. The mess was managed extremely well. I have dealt with many contractors and it is sometimes hard to contact them or get answers when you need them. I have to give Chris a big shout out for always and I mean always answering my texts or phone calls. Needless to say I would highly recommend these guys. Thanks

Complete remodel of my 2 bedroom condo

I highly recommend Stark Builders. They completely remodeled my 2 bedroom apartment at 4250 North Marine Dr. in three phases.
Phase 1 - gutted and remodeled ( removed wall), put in new floors, upgraded electrical and painted the living room, dining room and kitchen and replaced closet doors - fall of 2017.
Phase 2 - remodeled guest bathroom - spring of 2018
Phase 3 - gutted and remodeled master bath, painted both bedrooms
They were very easy to work with, showed up on time, cleaned up after themselves and got the work done in a timely manner. Chris Serban was always available if I had any questions or if we had ran into any problems.
I would not hesitate to use them again or recommend to friends ad family.
    Betsy
