    Siding replacement
    $54,000

Richard Sweet stole $34,000 from us. We took him to court and won "Oaks vs. Sweets Exteriors" easily found in public records, King County Superior Court 2021. So he closed his business never paid on the judgment against him ($45,000) and started selling real estate with Century 21 in the Snohomish County area. BUYER BEWARE he is a crook!

    Roof and remodel 2 bathrooms
    $27,500

We hired Sweets Exteriors, then known as Sweets Construction in November/December 2020 to install a new roof on our home and remodel two bathrooms. In the beginning Richard was involved and attentive in our remodel. The roof was completed relatively quickly and the work looks to be done well. For the first bathroom there was a delay as he stated he had a hard time finding people to come in and complete the work we had hired him for. However COVID was just beginning at that time and so it seemed a plausible explanation. The first bathroom took months to complete. Then we decided to hold off on having him complete the second bathroom as COVID was in full swing and my husband had some serious health concerns that put him at really high risk. Richard refused to wear a mask in our home or require his staff to wear one either. When we called to have him come out and continue working on our property, to finish what we had contracted with him to do, we got the run around. He would not answer our calls and texts would go unanswered. He finally came back and said our project had gone over budget and he would need additional funds in order to complete the last bathroom. We had worked through a finance company that he recommended in the beginning of the job. When the roof was done he indicated it would be a while before he finished the job because of trouble finding people to work on the bathrooms. He said he could not pay the roofer until the project was done and did not want to wait to pay him, so asked that we sign the bank form that he had completed the job. Hindsight is 2020. He has now stated he used all the funds for the roof and one tiny bathroom. He refuses to provide a detailed and itemized accounting of the funds related to our project. At no point in any of the time he was working for us did he indicate there was a lack of funds to complete the job. He did not submit any change orders for anything and continued to discuss the pending bathroom like there was no issue, until it came time to actually do the work. We are now in communication with the lender about the issue. Richard is a scam artist. He does not keep detailed records or provide updated information to his customers. We asked him at several points for an accounting of where our budget was and never got a response from him. His accounting practices are shady. He did not apply for permits for the work done that required permits and the work done in the bathroom is not up to par. We have also discovered, through a family member who has a general contractor permit, that he has changed company names and has new license numbers fairly often, likely because of all the issues listed here. I would never recommend anyone use Richard with Sweets Exteriors.

    Paint my house

I hired Richard Sweet, Sweet’s Construction to paint my house. They destroyed my siding with a pressure washer leaving big holes, raw wood, and nails sticking out everywhere. They then sprayed right over the top without prepping or masking anything off. The paint was literally falling off the house within a week. They sprayed my windows, gutters, and the roof over my porch with red paint. I had to hire an attorney. It will now cost nearly $15,000 to repair and paint my house. Stay away from this company.

Build a cover over our existing deck and build new stairs and hand rails.
    $10,000

Stay away from Richard Sweet. Richard has his own construction company (Sweet Construction) and works as a realtor for Century 21 in Mount Vernon WA and various other cities and counties. Richard lives in Granite Falls WA. Just like the other reviewer(s), at some point he will stop responding to calls, texts, emails, etc. We had worked with Richard on 2 previous times, but the 3rd time he did part of the project and then convinced us to pay in full before finishing. Since we didn't have any issues before, we paid in full. We did have Richard sign his original invoice indicating he owed us the stairs and that we had pre-paid for the work. Cutting to the chase, Richard never came back and owes us about $1000+ worth of work. He never completed the stairs to our deck. Now I have to find another company to complete the work I've already paid for. Stay away from Richard Sweet, he's not an honest person.

    Siding
    $21,000
    20 days

Sweet Construction handled the re-siding on our home. A crew member cut a water line, flooded our kitchen while we were gone, and ruined the floor. We personally had it pulled up down to the damaged underlayment, and replaced and now he is refusing reimburse us for the work done. We have given Richard many opportunities to resolve this issue and have been treated completely unprofessionally. Ignoring our calls, emails, etc. We won't be using him for any other projects for our home and are now pursuing a lien against his bond. Completely untrustworthy.
